About the Qualification
The OTHM Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety is a prestigious qualification regulated by Ofqual (UK Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation) and approved by Qualifications Wales. This diploma is considered equivalent to the final year of a UK Bachelor’s degree and provides direct entry routes to postgraduate study, including relevant Master’s degree programmes. Graduates are also eligible to apply for Graduate Membership (Grad IOSH) of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, which is the first step towards Chartered Membership (CMIOSH).

Entry Requirements
Learners must possess one of the following:
A Level 3 or higher qualification in health and safety (e.g., NEBOSH, NCRQ, IOSH, or British Safety Council qualifications).
At least two years of relevant work experience in a safety-related role (mature learners aged 21+).
Minimum age: 18 years.
Proficiency in English to meet the academic and assignment requirements.
Course Structure
The diploma is made up of 7 mandatory units (total credits: 120; guided learning hours: 480):
Health and Safety Management Principles and Policy
– Understanding management frameworks, policy design, and integration into organisational systems.Health and Safety Management Practice
– Application of safety systems, monitoring performance, and continuous improvement.Risk and Incident Management
– Risk assessment methodologies, accident causation theories, incident investigation, and emergency response.Promoting a Positive Health and Safety Culture
– Strategies for engagement, training, communication, and worker participation in health and safety.Maintaining a Safe Workplace Environment
– Safe systems of work, ergonomics, occupational health, welfare, and workplace design.Health and Safety Law, Regulation and Influence
– Analysis of national and international health and safety legislation, standards, and the role of enforcement bodies.Development of the Health and Safety Practitioner
– Professional ethics, competence frameworks, leadership skills, and continuous professional development (CPD).
Assessment Method
Coursework / Assignments Only – No written exams.
Each unit is assessed by written assignments designed to test the learner’s knowledge, application, and analytical ability.
Learners must complete and submit all 7 unit assignments successfully to achieve the diploma.
Duration & Study Mode
Typical completion time: 6–12 months (fast-track option: 10 weeks with intensive support).
Study Mode: Online learning, blended, or classroom delivery (flexible depending on centre).
